There's A serpent in the garden
That whispers in my ear
Says the fruit is not forbidden
And there's nothing I should fear
So I bit into the apple
And it poisoned my heart
Now I wander in the desert
Why'd I push us apart
Still there's a voice inside of me
It cries I want you to be free
Why are you running to the sea
Please Jonah come back to me
Come back to me
In my arms you can be free
How I long to bring you peace
If you'll come back to me
There's a temptress that I'm chasing
Who's faith just isn't there
She has trapped me with her beauty
And in my sleep she cut my hair
Now the strength has fled my body
I am not the man you made
Why'd I chase her empty beauty
Into the trap that she had laid
Still there's a voice inside of me
It cries I want you to be free
Why are you running to the sea
Please Jonah come back to me
Come back to me
In my arms you can be free
How I long to bring you peace
If you'll come back to me
I still see you in the stars
And I know that your alive
When I feel you in my heart
I know your by my side
and there's a voice inside of me
It cries I want you to be free
Why are you running to the sea
Please Jonah come back to me
Come back to me
In my arms you can be free
How I long to bring you peace
If you'll come back to me
Obviously the mighty oak is an allusion to death.
ReplyDeleteNot sure who you are or how you guessed it, but yes the oak tree is death, as anyone can see when they look out my window, at the stump that is its corpse.
ReplyDeletethis is really cool... i'm not usually moved by poetry - but that was very, very neat. it actually made sense. and it was very well written.
